Tragedy struck the football world as Ghanaian footballer Raphael Dwamena, aged 28, has passed away after collapsing during a match in the Albanian Superliga between FK Egnatia and KF Partizani.
The incident occurred in the 23rd minute of the game, leading to Dwamena being swiftly transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, as reported by NewsGhana on Saturday.
It was revealed that Dwamena had been playing with an Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) due to a pre-existing heart problem. His health challenges became public knowledge during a failed medical examination when he was on the verge of joining Brighton.
Albania Footy conveyed the heartbreaking news on Twitter, stating, “Rest in Peace to KF Egnatia’s Raphael Dwamena. The Ghanaian collapsed on the pitch during the Superliga match between Egnatia and Partizani. He later passed away in the hospital at the age of 28.”
Dwamena, known for his time with the Swiss side FC Zurich, leaves behind a poignant void in the football community, with condolences pouring in from fans and fellow players.
