Gov. Adeleke Denies APC’s Claims of Secret Loans in Osun

By Abigail Philip David

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that his administration has been secretly obtaining loans.

The APC, during an end-of-year press conference in Osogbo on Monday, called on Governor Adeleke to disclose the state’s financial records, accusing his government of mismanaging public resources.

Kola Olabisi, the APC’s Director of Media and Information, claimed the state government had secretly signed and obtained foreign loans totaling $51 million (₦81.6 billion). He warned that such actions could plunge Osun State into severe financial distress and urged citizens to hold the governor accountable.

The opposition party further alleged that part of the 2024 budget was being financed through the NG-CARES facility, contradicting claims by the Adeleke administration that no loans had been obtained since taking office.

In response, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, rejected the APC’s accusations as baseless.

“No loan approval request has been made for any project since the start of this administration. This is fake news that the APC has repeatedly propagated,” Rasheed stated.

He added that Osun residents are well-informed and would recognize if the government was borrowing funds. Rasheed also denied the APC’s claim that the state had accessed foreign loans under the NG-CARES program.

Governor Adeleke’s administration has consistently maintained that its financial policies are transparent, emphasizing a commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountability.
