Gov Zulum Joins VP Shettima, Others at 2024 AMGA Closing Ceremony

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, attended the closing ceremony of the 2024 African Military Games (AMGA24) in Abuja.

The ceremony took place on Saturday at the main bowl of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

A Celebration of African Military Sports

The African Military Games, a biennial multi-sport event for military athletes from across the continent, began in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya. This year’s edition featured 19 participating countries, competing across 21 sports disciplines.

Nigeria Tops the Medal Table

Team Nigeria emerged as the overall winner, securing an impressive 234 medals:

  • Gold: 114
  • Silver: 65
  • Bronze: 45

Algeria claimed second place with 96 medals, while Kenya took third with 59 medals.

Key Highlights

Vice President Kashim Shettima presented the final trophy to the overall winning team, while Governor Zulum decorated the male and female winners of the 4×400-meter relay sprint.

The Special Senior Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Abdyrrahman Bundi, expressed pride in Nigeria’s performance and highlighted the significance of the games in fostering unity and showcasing the athletic prowess of African military personnel.
