Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting the welfare of widows and families of the nation’s fallen heroes.

The governor made this appeal on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after attending the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph in Asaba, the state capital.

Leading top government officials, military, and paramilitary personnel, Governor Oborevwori laid a wreath to honor the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes. He emphasized the importance of the annual event in commemorating their bravery and service.

“This day is a solemn occasion when we remember and celebrate our fallen heroes,” the governor stated. “My prayer is for God to grant their souls eternal rest and to comfort their families.”

Governor Oborevwori reassured the families of deceased military personnel that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.

“I want to assure these families that they will not be neglected. We will continue to provide support to widows and those serving on the frontlines today. This demonstrates that Nigeria and its people care deeply for them,” he added.

The ceremony featured the laying of wreaths by prominent figures, including the Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, military commanders, and the Commissioner of Police.

This annual event serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces and reinforces the nation’s commitment to their families’ welfare.
