Group commends north-east governors on security

Must read

The North East Development Association (NEDA) has commended the governors of the region for the bold steps they are taking in curbing criminal activities including insurgency in the sub-region.

The Secretary General of the group, Bitako Umar in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, urged the governors to maintain the spirit and persistence to ensure development for the region.

Umar said if they could sustain such spirit, that they would be able to solve and overcome the lingering insecurity challenges that have deterred growth and development in the region.

“Similarly, the governors conceived policy of looking into other critical sectors such as power, agriculture; environment; water and sanitation are all laudable.

“This requires supports from all and sundry in the region to restore the already devastation caused by insecurity.

“NEDA has observed in recent times the efforts of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Humanitarian activities and quick responses to crises in the region.

“Particularly after the Auno and Garkida attacks and their vested efforts in rebuilding the affected areas,” he said.

Umar described the proposed Educational Endowment Scheme and Skills Acquisitions Training Programmes by the governors as fantastic.

He said that the association commended the governors on that, adding that it should be properly implemented by reaching the less privileged and target groups and urged them to do more.

According to him, NEDA is ever ready to synergise with NEDC, North East Governors Forum and any other body that would bring peace, growth and development to the region.
