“I Have Been Broken but Not Destroyed” – Naira Marley Speaks After Court Clears Him in Mohbad’s Death Case

By Abigail Philip David

Nigerian singer Naira Marley has shared an emotional note following a court ruling that declared him not guilty in connection with the death of his former signee, Mohbad.

Taking to social media, Naira Marley expressed his pain and disappointment, stating that he never imagined silence could be so loud or that someone he once called a brother would pass away with his name entangled in the tragedy.

He revealed that he has carried weight, pain, and shame that never belonged to him, emphasizing that while he and his Marlian label weren’t perfect, they had grown, adapted, and made mistakes—but never engaged in a war. He also claimed that before Mohbad’s passing, they had made peace and understood each other beyond their differences.

However, after Mohbad’s untimely death, he lamented that the world immediately turned against him, accusing him of a crime he did not commit.

In his words:

“I never thought silence could be so loud. I never thought someone I called my brother, someone I protected, would leave this world with my name in his shadow. I have carried this weight, this pain, this shame that was never mine to bear.

We, as Marlians, were not perfect. We had to grow, we had to adapt. Mistakes were made, but they were business wars. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings. And you know this.

Yet, when he took his last breath in your arms, you looked at the world and pointed at me. You let them tear me apart. You let them call me a killer while you sat there, knowing the truth. Now, you tell the story.

You never thought I would survive. You never thought I would walk through the fire and face my people. Maybe you hoped I would stay a fugitive. You thought I would run. Instead, I stood before the justice system, spent time in jail, and faced everything head-on while you changed the story, again and again.

But God sees all. The truth does not shake. The lies will fade, and time will reveal everything. I have been broken, but I am not destroyed. And when the truth finally speaks, I pray your heart is strong enough to bear it.”

On Tuesday, a Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos, cleared Naira Marley, his associate Sam Larry, and Prime Boy of any involvement in Mohbad’s death, stating that they had no case to answer in relation to the singer’s tragic passing.

Following the ruling, Naira Marley took to Twitter and Instagram, sharing verses from the Quran. One of the verses stated that anyone who puts their trust in Allah will find Him sufficient, while another emphasized that though men may conspire, Allah remains the best planner.

The case surrounding Mohbad’s death has been a subject of intense public scrutiny, but with the latest court decision, Naira Marley appears determined to clear his name and move forward.
