In another distressing incident, armed gunmen targeted the Orodo Autonomous Community in Imo State, kidnapping Eze Samuel Ohiri, a respected traditional ruler. The four-member gang, equipped with heavy weaponry, executed the abduction during a brazen attack on the palace.
The assailants, arriving in a green Toyota Highlander, conducted the raid in a commando-style operation. Despite the swift and audacious nature of the attack, Eze Samuel Ohiri’s cousin managed to escape, providing crucial details about the incident.
The gunmen forcibly took the traditional ruler and fled the scene in their vehicle, heading towards Umuaka-Orlu Road. The identity and motives of the kidnappers remain unknown, as authorities launch a comprehensive investigation into the abduction.
Confirming the incident, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, assured that the police are actively pursuing the case. He emphasized their commitment to rescuing the victim and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
This unfortunate event follows a disturbing pattern of attacks on traditional rulers in Imo State. Notably, Eze Joe Achulor of Otulu Autonomous Community suffered a similar fate on November 25, 2023, with the tragic outcome of losing his life. His lifeless body was discovered on Mbutu Road, a neighboring community.
In a separate incident on July 17, 2023, Eze James Nnamdi (Mirioma), the traditional ruler of Ezuhu Umuamadi Nguru Autonomous Community, met a grisly end at the hands of unidentified gunmen. The series of attacks on Imo monarchs underscore the urgent need for enhanced security measures in the region.
