Joeboy Reveals Childhood Struggle That Led to His Foundation

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Nigerian singer Joeboy has shared a childhood memory that inspired him to start his foundation. The artist spoke about the struggles he faced with paying school fees. He said these experiences led him to create the Young Legend Foundation. The foundation helps children who are in similar financial situations.

In an interview with Isi Ijewere on Backstage Banter with Isi, Joeboy recalled being repeatedly sent home for unpaid fees. He also remembered the embarrassment when the school secretary would announce names of students who owed fees. “The whole class would call my name, ‘Akinfewa Joseph,'” Joeboy said. It deeply hurt him.

The public humiliation was so intense that Joeboy decided to leave the school. “I didn’t care, I pulled myself out,” he shared.

This painful experience inspired him to take action. He started the Young Legend Foundation two months ago. The foundation helps pay school fees for children who can’t afford them.

“My inner child is excited about that,” Joeboy said. He believes no child should feel ashamed because of financial difficulties. It wasn’t his fault he couldn’t pay fees. However, others made him feel guilty.

Through his foundation, Joeboy aims to make a positive impact. He wants to ensure that other children don’t experience the same embarrassment he did.
