The Nigerian Union of Journalists,NUJ has directed it’s members to boycott all activities involved in the visit of former Aviation Minister Mr Femi Fani Kayode to Akwa Ibom.
A statement from the state chairman and secretary of the union Comrade Amos Etuk and Comrade Domnic Akpanand respectively made available to newsmen in Uyo on Friday said the move became necessary because were not involved in Kayode’s planned tour of the state.
The directive is coming after the former minister verbally assualted the Cross River correspondent of Daily Trust newspapers Mr Eyo Bassey at a press conference in Calabar during his tour of projects executed by Governor Been Ayade.
“In line with the disposition of the national leadership of our great Union, the State Council has directed that no journalist should attend a media parley with Femi Fani-Kayode or any of his activity at any location in Akwa Ibom State.
“The NUJ is not part of the visit. Please, share this information in your various platforms.” The statement said.
Kayode arrived Uyo on Wednesday and was wellcomed by Governor Udom Emmanuel and after a guided tour of Government House in Uyo declared it to be the best in the country.
Though the PDP chieftain has apologized for his outbursts against Eyo, Nigerians and International media organisations has continued to criticize his actions of unbecoming of a man of his position and class.
