JUST-IN: Court Stops Pro-Wike Rally In Bayelsa

A Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa has issued an order restraining associates of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, from holding a planned mega rally in the state. The event, scheduled for April 12, 2025, in Yenagoa, will remain on hold pending the court’s decision on a Motion on Notice.

Justice I.A. Uzakah granted the interim injunction in response to Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025, filed by Bayelsa’s Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo, SAN. The lead convener of the NEW Associates, Mr. George Turnah, and Wike were named as the first and second defendants, respectively. Other defendants include the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State.

The court’s ruling prohibits the defendants and their representatives from organizing, participating in, or facilitating any political gathering in Bayelsa to celebrate Wike until the Motion on Notice is heard and determined.

The case has been adjourned to April 11, 2025, for further proceedings.
