Kaduna: Commendations as Fatima Academy Recovered by HRO, Handed Over to LG

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Following sustained advocacy by the Eagle Brain Youth Transformative and Development Initiative, a Kaduna-based Human Rights Organization (HRO), the Fatima Academy in Doka Maijema has officially been reclaimed and handed over to the Chikun Local Government Education Authority (LGEA).

The handover marks a major milestone in restoring public oversight and strengthening educational development in the area, earning widespread commendation for the HRO.

The ceremony, held at the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) Conference Room, brought together government officials, education authorities, community leaders, and Eagle Brain representatives, whose intervention was instrumental in exposing the diversion of government resources meant for the school.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Bulus Ibrahim, Education Secretary of Chikun LGEA, expressed deep appreciation to Eagle Brain for its persistent advocacy, which ensured the school’s return to government control after the project had been diverted to a private institution.

“After an extensive review, it was confirmed that the contract was meant for Chikun LGEA. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Eagle Brain for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to education in our community,” Dr. Ibrahim said.

He also commended Mohammed Mubarak, Chairman of KADSUBEB, whose leadership he described as pivotal in reclaiming the school.

Other attendees included Directors of School Management and Social Mobilisation at KADSUBEB, Human Resource Department officials, the Principal of Fatima Academy, and community leaders.

The case dates back to March 2025, when Eagle Brain submitted a detailed petition to the EFCC and DSS, alleging that a senior official had diverted funds and materials allocated for the public school to a privately owned Fatima Academy.

After a thorough investigation, the EFCC confirmed the allegations, leading to the formal handover of the school to SUBEB on July 30, 2025.

In his remarks, Comrade Ejembi, leader of Eagle Brain, thanked the EFCC, DSS, and ICPC for ensuring justice prevailed. He noted that the intervention has energised the community to reclaim the primary school and work toward establishing a secondary school.

He added that the organization would continue to conduct thorough reviews before submitting cases and remain steadfast in exposing wrongdoing.

The successful recovery and handover of the school in Sabon Gero, Chikun LGA, restores educational opportunities for the community and stands as a testament to the power of civic vigilance, institutional accountability, and collective advocacy.
