Kaduna State Electoral Commission Releases Screening Timetable for LG Polls

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has released the screening timetable for candidates contesting in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 19, 2024. The timetable, signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mrs. Hajara Mohammed, was issued on Friday in Kaduna.

The screening exercise for chairmanship and councillorship candidates will take place from Monday, September 9, to Monday, September 16, 2024. It will be conducted daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the respective local government headquarters.

Referencing the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission Law of 2024, the Commission noted that the screening process is a critical step ahead of the elections, ensuring that all prospective candidates meet the necessary qualifications.

This follows President Bola Tinubu’s endorsement of the Supreme Court’s July ruling, affirming the constitutional autonomy of local governments. The President emphasized the need for local council leaders to provide essential services that directly impact grassroots governance.
