Kano sets for Ramat Cup final

By Unukere Oboh

The 37th edition of the Ramat Ramat Cup International under 16 Boys Soccer Championship, organized by Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON, will begin on Wednesday in the ancient city of Kano.

According to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr. Nasiru Yusif Gawuana, who is also the president of YSFON, participants in the one week of football fiesta are expected to arrive on Tuesday with the screening holding on Wednesday at the Pillars Stadium in Sabon Gari area in the City Centre .

Gawuna said the finals of the championship shall come up on Friday 21 February 2020 at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

Ramat Cup is a football championship organised annually by YSFON in memory of one of Nigeria’s great Head of State, Late General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, who was assassinated on the 13th February 1976 during a failed military coup. The championship is sponsored by the Government of Kano State.

Gawuna noted that the federation will as usual not tolerate any act of age cheat as its Technical Committee will not spare any team found wanting as they will not hesitate to wield the hammer as a deterrent to others.

The Deputy Governor was optimistic that this year’s edition will witness a lot of innovations in its organization as he urged all football enthusiasts in the state to come out en-mass to support the stars of tomorrow.

He also hinted that some states from the federation will also play a role in the field of athletics as a 4×400 relay for both boys and girls will herald the finals.
