Libya’s Knights Arrive in Uyo for AFCONQ 2025 Clash Against Nigeria’s Super Eagles

Libya’s Mediterranean Knights have arrived in Uyo, Nigeria, for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying match against the Super Eagles. The team made the lengthy journey from Tripoli to Abuja before traveling by road to Uyo, where they will compete on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

This match marks the third round of Group D qualifiers and is vital for both teams as they strive to secure their spots in the tournament, set to be hosted in Morocco. For newly appointed Libyan coach Nasser Al-Hadhiri, this match represents his first test after replacing Serbian Milutin Sredojevic, who was dismissed following poor performances in the opening rounds.

The Knights view this fixture as a critical opportunity to turn their campaign around, having struggled thus far in Group D. Al-Hadhiri’s squad conducted their final training session in Tripoli before departing and will hold their first training in Uyo on Wednesday morning to acclimatize and adjust tactics for the upcoming game.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Super Eagles are ramping up their preparations. Interim coach Austin Eguavoen, taking charge after Finidi George’s exit, led the team in their first training session on Tuesday evening. So far, twenty players have reported to camp, including notable talents like Ballon d’Or nominee Ademola Lookman and Fulham’s Alex Iwobi.

Key players such as William Troost-Ekong, Moses Simon, and Maduka Okoye participated in training, while Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Chidera Ejuke, and Fenerbahçe’s Bright Osayi-Samuel are expected to join soon. Currently, the Super Eagles sit on four points after their first two matches and aim to build on their solid start at home.

Following the Uyo clash, both teams will meet again for the reverse fixture on October 15 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, Libya.
