Salihu Lukman, former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is calling on President Bola Tinubu to promptly address the rift between Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Ganduje, former Governors of Kano State.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Lukman emphasized the need for President Tinubu to initiate further negotiations for a political alliance or merger between the APC, Kwankwaso, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
He cautioned against solely focusing on the bribery allegations against Ganduje, urging APC leaders to engage with broader political challenges facing the party.
Lukman stressed the importance of seizing this opportunity to revitalize the APC in Kano State and beyond, particularly in the North West and the entire North.
He stated, “Being progressives requires honesty, and it’s evident that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his NNPP hold considerable support in Kano State.” Lukman suggested revisiting the issues underlying the disagreement between Kwankwaso and Ganduje and considering another round of negotiations for alliance or merger.
Highlighting the need to recruit new actors like Kwankwaso, who uphold democratic principles, Lukman urged Tinubu to demonstrate his progressive leadership by effectively managing this situation.
He also urged Tinubu to address the political imbalance by reinstating the North Central into mainstream leadership, emphasizing the importance of returning the APC to its founding principles of progressive politics.
