The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft has conducted a one-day free medical outreach for residents of Dadur and Bwarat communities in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Over 1,500 residents benefitted from the outreach, which included a range of health services such as rapid malaria tests, medical consultations, distribution of medications, and insecticide-treated mosquito nets for children and pregnant women. Eye and dental check-ups were also provided.
Beneficiaries were screened for diabetes mellitus and hepatitis B and C, and treated for ailments including malaria, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar.
Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, Commander of NNS Beecroft and sponsor of the outreach, said the initiative was part of efforts to give back to his community. He was represented by Surgeon Lt. Commander Francis Fuanbial.
“This outreach highlights the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to corporate social responsibility,” Fuanbial said. “Giving back to society is at the core of our values, and we aim to strengthen the bond between the Navy and local communities.”
Langtang North Council Chairman, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, represented by his deputy, Mrs. Deborah Dalen, praised the Navy’s gesture and pledged continued collaboration with credible organizations for community development.
The traditional ruler of Bwarat, Ponfa Bahal, described the initiative as laudable and pledged the community’s support for future engagements.
Several beneficiaries also expressed gratitude. Mr. Kurnap Gamde said he received eye treatment and medication, including medicated glasses. Another resident, Dinchi Nathan, said she had intended to visit the hospital but instead received free treatment at the outreach. “God bless them,” she said, also commending the Navy for distributing mosquito nets.
