Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, NEMA, gave the advice in a statement issued in Lagos.

Farinloye said: “NEMA wishes to appeal to commuters and people around Magboro to comply with safety measures taken to safeguard their lives and property, in view of gas pipeline rupture as a result of activities along the major highway.

“In the meantime, supplies have been shut down to suffocate the supply line while fire services are on standby to forestall any emergency.

“People are enjoined to endure the inconveniences that have arisen due to these safety measures.”

He said officials of NEMA, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria Gas Company and Ogun State Fire Service were working diligently to stabilise the situation.

Daybreak reports that the leakage occurred on Wednesday morning after a gas pipeline was unintentionally ruptured due to road construction activities.

The incident led to traffic gridlock on both inbound and outbound sections of the expressway.
