Nigerians furious over postponement

Must read

By Abba Abubakar

Following the sudden and unexpected postponement of Nigeria’s general elections today by the Electoral Commission, the heated atmosphare is generating furious comments in protest over what many view as “very provoking and insincere decision”.

A presidential candidate of the Nigerian Elements Progessive Party (NEPP) Comrade Ishaku Paul Ofemile who talked to the press over the issue, said the postponement was no less than a culculated attempt to rig the elections.

He bitterly accuses president Buhari, APC chairman Oshiomole and the INEC boss for a sublime collaboration to perfect a planned pre-election rigging.

He said the unholy action of the INEC in collaboration with the president and the APC chairman is condemnable and unacceptable, viewing that the electoral chairman has no option than to resign shamelessly.

Comrade Ishaka observes that this unjustified action has caused lots of damages and irriparable inconveniences to millions of Nigerians who travelled from distant places in thier bid to perform thier civic rights, “but their hopes and aspirations were wickedly dashed”, he laments.

Zamfara PDP gubernatorial candidate Hon. Bello Matawalle in his view, said “I take the issue in good faith, but advised INEC to be just and fair in its conduct for free and acceptable elections in the future” he urged.

He observes that though this was not the first time election was postponed, Matawalle however urged stakeholders to be very cautious in the assessment of the election postponement.

In his view also, the guber candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Hon. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi said it is not only shamefully disgusting of the action, but it is irresponsible to take a decision against the interest of innocent Nigerian voters.

He particularly expresses worry about the huge National resourse committed to the project, “but all went down the drain as the poor voters remain the worst hit by the rackless decision”.

Another guber candidate from Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) Hon. Sani Muhammad Takori is also of the view that the development is not new to the Nigeria’s polititics, and advised the citizens to exercise patience and remain couragious to arrive at a just, fair and generally acceptable elections.

He views that since the development has already occurred, there is no option other than to devourt more energy in biulding a solution and striving to develop strong steps to avoid future accurance.
