Odense Boldklub Trial for Nigerian U17 Star Abdulwaris Yunus Ahead of Potential Transfer

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Danish 1st Division leaders, Odense Boldklub, have extended a trial offer to Nigerian U17 international Abdulwaris Yunus. The trial aims to assess Yunus’s potential for a transfer upon his reaching the age of majority.

Yunus, a standout player for Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets, was pivotal at the 2024 WAFU ZONE B U17 African Cup of Nations held in Ghana. His impressive performances contributed significantly to Nigeria’s third-place finish at the tournament, where he managed three consecutive clean sheets in group stage matches.

Currently, Yunus is training with the Odense Boldklub squad. He participated in a session with the first team players who were not involved in Wednesday’s friendly against Silkeborg. Although he has demonstrated versatility as both a center-back and right-back, the primary focus of this trial is to evaluate his suitability for the club’s academy.

Odense Boldklub plans to review Yunus’s performance closely until September 11, 2024. If he meets the club’s expectations, there are prospects of him joining their academy team.

Notably, Odense Boldklub has previously seen Nigerian internationals like Kingsley Madu, Izunna Uzochukwu, and Peter Utaka among their ranks, highlighting a positive history of Nigerian players at the club
