Ondo PDP Rejects Edo Election Results, Calls It “Rape of Democracy”

By   Milcah   Tanimu

The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rejected the recent governorship election results in Edo State, branding them a “rape of democracy.” The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 291,667 votes, while the PDP received 247,274 votes, and the Labour Party garnered 22,763 votes.

In a statement from Ayo Fadaka, the Special Adviser for Media and Publicity of the Ondo PDP Campaign Organisation, the party expressed outrage over the election outcome. Fadaka emphasized that the results reflect a disregard for the true electoral wishes of the populace, as expressed at the ballot box.

“The declared results by INEC do not reflect the reality on the ground. Nigerians recognize that the PDP truly won this election, and this travesty of justice is a shame on those in power,” Fadaka stated. He further criticized INEC for shifting the collation of votes from designated local government centers to its headquarters in Benin, a move he claimed violates electoral laws.

The PDP in Ondo has taken note of what they consider “dastardly acts” by electoral agencies and vowed to ensure that the voting rights of their constituents are protected in future elections. They plan to stage protests against the APC government, citing issues like hardship and poverty as major concerns.

As the Ondo PDP prepares for future electoral challenges, they assert their commitment to safeguarding votes and demand accountability from electoral bodies, warning against any attempts to compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
