Prosperity cup: Gov. Diri to present kits on Thursday

The 2022 edition of the Bayelsa Governor’s Cup will take centre stage in a matter of days with the presentation of branded jerseys to all the two hundred and six (206) teams that registered for the competition.

State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, who will be the Special Guest of Honor, will present the jerseys to the teams, at the event billed for Thursday, 28th, at the main bowl of the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa.

Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, will be the Guest of Honor, Youth and Sports Development Commissioner, Hon. Daniel Igali, will be the Chief Host, while Mr. Ono Akpe, the tournament’s Director General, will be the Host.

In a statement by the Media Officer of the competition, Mr. Patrick Ndubuisi, and released in Yenagoa on Monday, the Director General hinted that the presentation will be sequel to the weekly jogging exercise by the Governor and other top government functionaries, which will commence from the Julius berger roundabout and terminates at the Sports Complex.

He enjoined all government functionaries, as well as the participating teams to avail themselves and be part of the jogging exercise with the Governor.

The DG said this year’s edition has broken the record for the number of participating teams, which stand at two hundred and six, comprising of communities, Churches, tertiary institutions, and other organisations.

“It is interesting to note that this year’s edition has teams from the Non- Indigene Communities in the State, as the likes of the Arewa, Yoruba, Igbo and Niger Delta, registered for the tournament.”

“This is quite exciting and highly commendable ” he concluded.
