RFS Coach Rates Osimhen Higher Than Icardi After Draw with Galatasaray

By   Milcah   Tanimu

After a 2-2 draw against Galatasaray in the UEFA Europa League, RFS coach Viktors Morozs declared that Victor Osimhen is a more dangerous player than Mauro Icardi. Osimhen missed the match due to injury, while Icardi led the attack for Galatasaray, which squandered a healthy lead for the second consecutive game.

Dries Mertens opened the scoring for the Turkish side in the 12th minute, and Yunus Akgun doubled their advantage with a goal from Davinson Sánchez’s cross. However, Janis Ikaunieks pulled one back for RFS before halftime, and Lasha Odisharia equalized in the 54th minute.

In his post-match comments, Morozs noted that the outcome could have changed if Osimhen had played. He stated, “It would have been different if Osimhen had played. He would have added strength to Galatasaray. Osimhen is a different player than Icardi. In my opinion, he could have passed our defense more easily.”

He further emphasized, “It would have been difficult to play against such a forward. His absence today hurt Galatasaray. Osimhen is a strong and dangerous player.”

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk agreed with Morozs, acknowledging that Osimhen could have significantly impacted the game’s outcome. The 25-year-old had previously assisted two goals in Galatasaray’s opening Europa League victory against PAOK but remained sidelined for this match due to injury.

Following the draw, Galatasaray sits in 8th place in the standings, tied on points with Ajax Amsterdam and Eintracht Frankfurt, while trailing the top of the table by two points.
