Nigeria faces the potential loss of Samuel Omorodion, as the 20-year-old forward is likely to receive a call-up to the Spanish senior team for the upcoming international break, according to reports from Soccernet.ng.

Omorodion has excelled since joining Porto, a former Portuguese champion, in the summer transfer window. Although he was initially linked with a move to Chelsea, the deal fell through at the last moment. Since then, his performances have shone brightly. He has netted four goals in his first four matches for Porto, placing him in contention for inclusion in Luis de la Fuente’s squad.

Raised in Spain, Omorodion progressed through various Spanish youth teams and even participated in the 2024 Olympics. Despite having Nigerian parents, discussions about him switching allegiance to Nigeria have not led to any action.

Now, the likelihood of Omorodion representing Nigeria is diminishing rapidly. As reported by Football Espania, the talented forward is set to be called up for Spain’s UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Serbia. If he plays in either match, FIFA regulations will prevent him from switching to Nigeria.

With his extraordinary talent, Omorodion has the potential to become a key player for Spain in the years to come. This situation highlights the challenges Nigeria faces in retaining its emerging talents amid competing national interests.
