Scores of students from Gusau University abducted by bandits

In the early hours of Friday, bandits reportedly abducted a significant number of students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State.

According to Abubakar Sani, a resident of Sabon Gida village, the bandits, who were heavily armed and in large numbers, attacked the off-campus residences of the students in the village. Most of the abducted students were females.

The invasion occurred around 4:00 am on Friday, during which the bandits targeted three student hostels. Sani revealed that many of the kidnapped students were females, while some managed to escape into the nearby bush.

Notably, the bandits exclusively targeted the university students and did not abduct any residents of the village.

Sani described the events, saying, “Upon their arrival in the village, they headed straight for the students’ off-campus residences and began firing indiscriminately. Subsequently, they forcibly entered the campuses and took away a number of students, predominantly females.”

Both the university authorities and the state police command have refrained from providing comments on the incident.
