Sen. Akwashiki trains women, youths in cosmetology, business skills

Sen. Godiya Akwashiki (APC-Nasarawa North) has trained 100 women and youths in his senatorial district in cosmetology and basic business skills to enable them become self reliant and contribute their quota to national development.

Akwashiki, while speaking at the graduation of the trainees in Akwanga on Sunday, said that the training was in conjunction with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Nasarawa State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker was represented at the occasion by his 2019 Campaign Director-General, Mr Husseini Garba.

While disbursing the starter package of N10,000 each to the trainees, he urged them to use the knowledge gained to improve on their standard of living and become employers of labour.

“You have been trained on basic business skills and capacity building in cosmetology, that is, production of liquid soaps, pomades, insecticides, perfume, bleach, disinfectants, hair cream, air freshener, shampoo and washing soap, among others.

“You have been selected from the three local government areas that make up Nasarawa North Senatorial district, that is, Akwanga, Wamba and Nassarawa Eggon.

“I urge you to use the knowledge gained to better your standard of living and become employers of labour,” he said.

Akwashiki also assured the people of his continued commitment to programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the senatorial district.

Earlier, Alhaji Dauda Idris-Wase, the Nasarawa State NDE Coordinator, said that the 100 beneficiaries had undergone five-day intensive training to make them self-reliant.

He commended the senator and the NDE Director-General, Nasiru Ladan-Argungu, for mobilising and supporting the training.

According to him, the training will go a long way in tackling women and youths’ restiveness, poverty and unemployment as well as boost the socioeconomic development of the state.

“The training also exposed the participants to them to strong entrepreneurial skills such as business operations and management, sources of funds, business ethics, marketing, cash management, different forms of businesses and legal responsibilities,” he said.

The NDE coordinator said that the BBT was one of the numerous ways designed by the agency to create jobs and reduce unemployment in the country.

Responding, Hauwa Sani, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the senator and NDE for the training aimed at improving their standard of living.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Maiwada Jambo, Zonal Chairman, APC, Nasarawa North, Mr Moses Malle, a former Overseer of Akun Development Area, traditional and religious leaders, among others, were present at the occasion.
