The Senate confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for the newly established North West Development Commission (NWDC) and South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, chair of the Senate’s ad hoc committee on regional developments, presented the report on Tuesday. Kalu, representing Abia North, stated that the nominees met all the necessary requirements during their screening.
The Senate approved 14 nominees for the North-West Commission and 18 for the South-East Commission.
Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi will lead the North-West Commission as its chairman, and Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji will serve as its chief executive officer (CEO).
The Senate confirmed other North-West nominees, including Yahaya Umar Namahe, Aminu Suleiman, Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq, and Muhammad Ali Wudil.
For the South-East Commission, Emeka Nworgu and Mark Okoye will serve as the chair and managing director, respectively. Other South-East nominees include Ugochukwu Agballah, Okey Kzenwa, Hyacinth Ikpor, and Ifeanyi Agwu.
These confirmations take the two commissions a step closer to their goal of driving development in their regions.
