“We salute the resilience, the apt and the doggedness of the players, the technical crew led by Edwin Okon, and the management of the club, led by Ms Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha.

“We give kudos to the Rivers Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, Power of Sports (PoS) Africa, for his zestful support for the team, and sports at large in Nigeria.

“Gov. Wike’s support has been rewarded by the team’s exceptional triumph as the first women football club to represent Nigeria in the continent,” Ejimofor said.

He commended efforts of the Rivers Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Honour Sirawoo for their encouragement, motivation and administrative approaches to the team during the competition.

“Hard work and dedication should be the watchword of the team, as the government and people of Rivers, fans and supporters alike are looking unto the Jewel of Rivers state to bring more glory to the state.

“SWAN on our part will continue to support Rivers Angels in her endeavors to carry on with the quest to put the name of Rivers on the global map of women’s football.’’
