Tinubu Runs Most Christian-Friendly Government — Akpabio

By Israel Adamu, Jos

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has described the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the most Christian-friendly government in the country compared to previous administrations.

Akpabio made the remark on Tuesday at the Polo Field in Jos during the formal reception of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senate President said President Tinubu’s government is committed to fairness and inclusiveness, stressing that it does not target any religion but treats Christians and Muslims equally.

“People have been spreading rumours as if this administration is targeting one religion. But I don’t think we have had another government in the last 10 years that has been as Christian-friendly as the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akpabio said.

He added that prominent Christian leaders and politicians would not associate with a party that was hostile to Christians.

“I know that Senator Simon Lalong, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda and Pastor-Governor Caleb Mutfwang will never join a party that is targeting Christians,” he stated.

Akpabio assured Governor Mutfwang of the federal government’s support in tackling insecurity in Plateau State and improving the welfare of its people. He emphasised the administration’s resolve to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation.

The Senate President also pledged legislative support for President Tinubu’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis across the country, including plans to shut down Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps through sustainable resettlement and development initiatives.

Congratulating Governor Mutfwang on his decision to join the APC, Akpabio said the move had brought Plateau State closer to the centre of national politics.

“Mr Governor, I congratulate you on this action of taking the people of Plateau to the centre of national politics. Let me assure you that insecurity will soon come to an end in Plateau. We will support your government in all sectors to better the lives of your people. We will not leave you alone,” he said.

He further noted that the development was significant as it had effectively brought all states in the North-Central geopolitical zone under the APC.

“Today’s action has finally brought all the states in the North-Central zone into the party. This is very significant. Government will do everything within its powers to protect Nigerians, no matter their religious belief. We will support President Tinubu through the approval of funds to shut down all IDP camps in the country,” Akpabio said.

The Senate President expressed confidence that peace would return fully to Plateau State, adding that the governor’s political realignment had strengthened his prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

“With this government, I believe peace has come to Plateau,” he added.
