FLASH: G-5 Governors in a closed door meeting, to Decide Next Action

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and four aggrieved colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are right now holding a meeting in Lagos.

At the meeting, the G5 and other members of the integrity group, are expected to discuss the next line of action on the lingering crisis rocking their party.

Other governors in the G5 group led by Wike are Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu.

PDP stakeholders like Olusegun Mimiko, former governor of Ondo, Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River, Bode George, former deputy national chairman, are also at the meeting.

The G-5 governors have for months been clamouring for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman of the party since the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is also from the North.

The aggrieved governors have been romancing leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) whose candidates are from the South.

During the flagoff of the PDP gubernatorial campaign on Saturday, while Wike attacked Atiku for running a divisive campaign and claiming to be a unifier, Ortom noted that the only fair thing is for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor to come from the South.
