KGIRS Sets To Beat 2023 Budget Target, Flushes Illegal Revenue Collectors In Kogi

From Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Chairman, Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue Service, (KGIRS), Sule Salihu Enehe, has stressed the determination and commitment of the management and staff of the service to generate 100% Budget target for 2023.

Enehe who made the promise while briefing the press in his office said the zeal and determination was to reciprocate the good works of the governor to the service and his confirmation as the substantive Chairman of the KGIRS.

Recalled that the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello had presented an estimated budget of N172,090,787,00 for the year 2023, being revenue set target for the KGIRS.

The State Chairman of KGIRS, however, assured that the target will be met and surpassed.

He pointed out that the state internal revenue Service is out to block all loopholes leading to revenue losses as observed in the State, promising that when fully activated, the internal revenue accruing to the State will be better enhanced.

Similarly, the KGIRS Chairman disclosed that the Service intends to bring in more persons into the tax net, pointing out that many businesses are yet to be captured, leading to losses of revenue.

With the motivation of regular promotion and other welfare packages for Staff, they will be commited to perform effectively, assuring that under his Leadership, the service will surpass its 2023 budget.

He allays the fears of tax payers, that the state has never engaged in multiple taxation, saying , it is only the KGIRS that is mandated to issue demand notices to customers.

According to the Chairman, ” We are however overhauling our area offices and reenergising them towards improved service delivery”, and many other efforts are on going to improve the internally generated revenue of the State.

The KGIRS Chairman explained that he is resolutely resolved to reposition the KGIRS towards better service delivery, said the Service is working to checkmate the activities of illegal revenue collectors, leading to what many misconstrue to double taxation.

While pointing out that the KGIRS is seriously engaging on sensitisation of members of the public on the need to be aware of legal taxes and revenue expected to be paid in the State, warned illegal tax collectors who are always dragging the name of the KGIRS into the mud.

While commending the Governor for finding him worthy for the confirmation, thanked the management and staff for their cooperation and dedication to duty, adding that it will spur the service to deliver on its mandate.
