Sierra Leone announces squad for AFCON qualifier against Eagles.

Sierra Leone Football Association Unveils 38-Man Provisional List for AFCON Qualifier Against Nigeria

The Sierra Leone Football Association has revealed a provisional list of 38 players for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria. The list, published on the federation’s Facebook page, highlights the players selected by head coach John Keister for the crucial match.

Notably, seven key players were absent from the squad, adding intrigue to the lineup. The Leone Stars are set to face the Super Eagles in the fifth matchday of the AFCON qualifiers at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Stadium in Liberia on June 18.

In their previous encounter, the Eagles emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on June 9, 2022. The upcoming clash promises to be a highly anticipated and competitive fixture as both teams vie for a spot in the AFCON tournament.

Sitting in third place in Group A with five points after four matches, Sierra Leone is determined to make a statement as they face the group leaders in a crucial match. Head coach Keister has unveiled a provisional squad consisting of 12 overseas-based and 26 home-based players for the must-win game against the three-time African champions.

With qualification hopes on the line, Sierra Leone aims to deliver a strong performance and secure a victory that would revitalize their chances of qualifying for the AFCON tournament. The blend of players from both overseas and domestic leagues showcases the team’s determination to compete at the highest level.

As the match approaches, all eyes will be on Sierra Leone as they strive to defy the odds and achieve a significant result against the group leaders.Notably absent from the provisional list is Jonathan Morsay, the Panaitolikos attacker who found the net in the 2-1 defeat against Nigeria in Abuja last year.
