Amusan aims for new world record

As she prepares to compete against formidable opponents at the Golden Spikes Meet in Ostrava and the Lausanne Diamond League, world champion hurdler Tobi Amusan is setting her sights on reaching the remarkable 11-second mark. Amusan, who currently holds the world record with a time of 12.12 seconds achieved at last year’s World Championships, remains optimistic despite her tough competition.

Although she managed to clock an impressive 12.06 seconds in the final, this time was not recognized as a new record due to the presence of a tailwind. Undeterred, Amusan expressed her faith and belief in the Bible, stating that nothing is impossible, including achieving the 11-second mark.

In the upcoming Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Amusan is set to face Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, former world champion Nia Ali, and rising US star Tia Jones. Following that, she will open her Diamond League campaign in Lausanne on June 30, competing alongside Camacho-Quinn, Ali, Jones, and the highly accomplished Alaysha Johnson, who has been one of the standout hurdlers this season.

Having secured a convincing victory at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica three weeks ago with a Season’s Best time of 12.57 seconds, Amusan aims to build on her success. Additionally, she seeks redemption against the competitors who have handed her consecutive losses earlier this season.

With her injury concerns now behind her, Amusan has reassured pundits that she is back in top form as she prepares to defend her world title in Budapest.
