Tension Mounts as DSS and Prison Services Clash over Emefiele’s Custody

A peculiar scene unfolded at the Federal High Court in Lagos when a disagreement arose between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) over the custody of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele had been brought before the court by the Federal Ministry of Justice on charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. However, upon pleading “not guilty,” he was granted bail in the amount of N20 million, with one surety.

While the defendant’s legal team was in the process of meeting the bail conditions, a commotion ensued within the court premises between the DSS operatives, who were wearing full hoods, and the NCS officials, each vying to take custody of the embattled CBN boss.
