“Pastor Fatally Shot in Kaduna: Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman Confirms Tragic Incident”

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Rev. Joseph John Hayab, the chapter chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, has sadly verified the killing of a pastor on Wednesday at the hands of unidentified gunmen.

The well-known religious leader conveyed that the attackers targeted a community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on August 23. During this incident, Rev. Jeremiah Mayau, a pastor affiliated with Tawaliu Baptist Church in Kujama, was tragically shot and killed.

Rev. Hayab shared that the attack occurred while Mayau was engaged in farm work near the Prison Farms in Kujama. Expressing his regret, Hayab lamented that the gunmen could commit such heinous acts with apparent impunity in the state.

“The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon as Rev. Jeremiah Mayau was working on his farm at Prison Farms, Kujama, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State.”

“It’s deeply painful that armed assailants can operate openly in broad daylight to carry out their wicked deeds and escape without any hindrance in a civilized society like ours, where we have established authorities responsible for curbing these criminal elements. It’s also disheartening that raising concerns can lead to one being labeled a troublemaker, while those in positions of authority seem to neglect their responsibilities in ensuring peaceful coexistence among citizens,” the CAN chairman expressed, as quoted by Daily Post.

Hayab urged security personnel to be more vigilant in their professional roles, curbing the activities of criminals that disrupt the peaceful pursuits of citizens striving to earn their livelihoods.

He offered prayers for comfort to Mayau’s immediate family, church community, and the wider body of Christ.
