FCT Senator Extends Hand of Unity to Opponents

By  Milcah  Tanimu

Senator Ireti Kingibe (LP-FCT) has issued a call to her opponents in the upcoming 2023 general elections, urging them to come together to work for the betterment of the territory.

Speaking at a news conference in Abuja , Senator Kingibe expressed her relief following the affirmation of her election victory by the election tribunal.

She took the opportunity to extend her gratitude to her supporters, known as ‘Obidients,’ as well as her legal team, for their commendable efforts. She emphasized that it was now time to focus on the responsibilities entrusted to her by the people of the FCT.

“I would like to extend my hand to Senator Aduda. In this race, there are no winners or losers. He has run a commendable campaign, and now it’s time to put that behind us. I invite him to collaborate with me for the betterment of the FCT. Together, let’s accomplish the goals that he, too, would have pursued if he had won. Our common aim is to elevate the FCT. I have previously worked with him, and I believe that is what he desires as well,” Senator Kingibe remarked.

She also reached out to Honorable Zakari and all her fellow contestants who have consistently strived for the betterment of the FCT, urging them to join forces to make the territory a place of pride.

Over the past two decades, the city has faced challenges, but Senator Kingibe emphasized that it was not the fault of any individual. As the seat of government and the face of Nigeria, she stressed the importance of making it a place everyone could be proud of.

Senator Kingibe further pledged that the Senate Committee on FCT would work closely with Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister, to ensure that the right steps were taken for the city to achieve greatness.

She highlighted the caliber of lawmakers in the 10th Senate, describing them as vibrant and knowledgeable. Senator Kingibe indicated that she had a substantial list of demands related to the FCT that needed the Senate’s attention.

Acknowledging the distractions caused by court cases involving many senators in recent weeks, she asked Nigerians for some time to demonstrate their commitment and patriotism when they reconvened.

Senator Kingibe promised to play a pivotal role in enacting laws to protect women’s rights and to ensure that the 35 percent affirmation for women’s representation was realized. As the chairperson of the Committee on Women’s Rights, she pledged to unveil programs aimed at promoting women’s rights and gender activism, with dedicated websites ready for launch.
