APC Suspends El-Rufai’s Political Ally and Ex Finance Commissioner/Chief of Staff

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Muhammad Bashir Saidu, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a close political ally of former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has been suspended from the party. Saidu, who previously served as the Commissioner of Finance throughout El-Rufai’s eight-year administration and as the Chief of Staff of the Government House in Kaduna for two terms, received the suspension notice.

Saidu, who also held the positions of Commissioner for Local Government Affairs in Kaduna State and State Secretary of the APC, was served the suspension letter by the Angwan Kaya Gyallesu ward Chairman and Secretary of the APC, Usman Sani and Kabiru Zubaru, respectively. The suspension is based on the recommendations of a fact-finding committee appointed by the party, though the specific reasons for his suspension were not explicitly stated.

The letter, issued by the APC’s Gyallesu ward in Zaria local government area, states, “In pursuant to the powers conferred on us by Article 21(4) & (B) of our great party, the All Progressives Congress Constitution as amended, we wish to convey the unanimous decision of the Ward Executive Committee, ratifying the fact-finding committee’s recommendations confirming your offense against our great party.”

“Consequently, we regret to inform you that you are hereby suspended from the party until further notice. This resolution shall be communicated to the Local Government Executive Committee for necessary action,” the letter continued.

Efforts to reach out to Saidu for further clarification on the reasons for his suspension were unsuccessful as of press time.
