By Milcah Tanimu

Nigerian footballer Victor Osimhen, who plays for Napoli, has earned a nomination for the 2023 CAF Men Player of the Year award. Osimhen’s exceptional performance significantly contributed to Napoli’s success in the previous season, where they clinched the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years. He also secured the Golden Boot by scoring 26 goals, becoming the highest-scoring African player in the league, and was named the league’s best striker.

Furthermore, at the 2023 Ballon d’Or awards ceremony held on Monday, Osimhen achieved a remarkable 8th place in the men’s category, making him the highest-ranked Nigerian player ever.

The 30-man nominee list for the 2023 CAF Men Player of the Year award also includes other prominent players such as Sadio Mane, the current holder of the award, and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool.

The Awards Gala is scheduled to take place on December 11, 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco, where the winner of the CAF Men Player of the Year will be revealed.
