Osun State Governor Imposes Curfew Following Communal Clash

Must read

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reinstated a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am in Ilobu and Ifon communities due to renewed hostilities. The governor also established a joint task force, deploying security personnel, including soldiers, to address the conflict. The decision comes after militias from Ilobu and Ifon engaged in clashes on the Osun-Oyo border, resulting in two casualties and property destruction.

Governor Adeleke, acting as the Chief Security Officer of the state, reviewed the security situation and ordered the immediate curfew. The government will assemble a joint task force involving traditional chiefs from Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun. A high-power stakeholders meeting, including traditional chiefs, rulers, government officials, and security chiefs, will be convened. Security personnel, comprising the Army, police, and Civil Defence, will be deployed promptly to restore peace in the affected communities.

Osun Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the communal clashes and urged calm while deploying operatives to maintain peace in the area. Two lives were lost in the incident, and the arrested individuals are under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
