Pope Offers Prayers for Moscow Attack Victims on Palm Sunday

Pope Francis extended prayers and condolences to the victims of the recent concert hall attack in Moscow, denouncing the violence as “inhuman acts” that deeply offend God.

During his Palm Sunday mass in Saint Peter’s Square, the 87-year-old pontiff expressed solidarity with those affected by the cowardly terrorist attack, urging for divine comfort for the victims’ families.

In his remarks, Pope Francis emphasized the need for conversion among those who orchestrate and perpetrate such heinous acts, reminding them of the divine commandment against killing.

Although Pope Francis did not deliver his planned homily and spoke with a weak, faltering voice, he appeared in good spirits after the mass, engaging with the crowd from his vehicle and smiling warmly.

The pope’s health has been a concern in recent years, with various ailments including knee and hip pain, an inflamed colon, and hernia surgery. Last month, he contracted the flu, prompting him to delegate reading his texts at public appearances.

Sunday’s Palm Sunday Mass marked the beginning of Holy Week, a significant period in the Christian calendar leading up to Easter, the most important holiday in Christianity.

Last year, Pope Francis missed the traditional “Way of the Cross” prayer service on Good Friday for the first time, citing health reasons, including recovery from a bronchitis infection that necessitated a three-night hospitalization.
