When love is destructive

Must read

By Okechukwu Keshi Ukegbu
“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave.It burns like blazing fire,like a mighty flame.Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot sweep it away.If one were to give all the wealth of one’s house for love, it would be utterly scorned”.- Songs of Solomon 8:6-8
The above text is interspersed with simile, paradox, symbolism, oxymoron, hyperbole, among others. Love is as stromg as death.Love is enduring and is meant to be enjoyed when it is found .But on the reverse it can be destructive when it is misapplied. We should endeavour to separate genuine and true love from the fake one.  Most times , what we consider love may be mere infatuation.When we Love, we should love unconditionally, not attaching conditions and expectations. This is the bane of many relationships today.
On the other hand, we can’t buy love even if we deploy all the finances and wealth in our disposal. Love is natural and comes naturally. The text notes that when we try to buy love with the wealth in our disposal, we are treated with contempt.  Many men have fallen victim, unfortunately, some didn’t survive to narrate their ordeal. Let’s be careful when it involves the subject”love”.
