By Samuel Ogenyi, Uyo

The Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola has flagged off the Migrant e-Registration for the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS in Uyi.

He has also advised Officers and personnel of the Service to shun indolence and corruption while performing their duties.

Aregbesola who gave the advice during the inauguration of the NIS ultra modern Office complex for Akwa Ibom said that Federal Government would continue to work hard to providing adequate and conducive working environment for its workforce across the country.

The minister assured the immigration service that his ministry would continue to support NIS and all other agencies under it for optimal performance.

“”It is my belief that this edifice will provide the needed comfort and condition for officers and men of this command to function effectively and efficiently.

“I therefore enjoin our personnel serving in Akwa Ibom to rededicate themselves to the service and make good use of this new command Office complex.

“As the Service makes efforts to ensure that officers and men operate in better and conducive atmosphere, we expect renewed zeal and vigour from the personnel in their work. The reward for good consideration is positive responsibility.” Aregbesola said.

He charged the NIS to ensure that the country’s border is adequately covered and ensure that only those coming to do business in Nigeria are allowed to pass through our borders.

“Immigration, though silent and hardly seen beyond the borders, is a major pillar in the security architecture of the nation.

“I must state that going by the ongoing reforms in the NIS, the present leadership of the Service is on track to raise the bar of service delivery.” He said.

In his remarks, the Comptroller General of NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede, said the Service has demonstrated readiness for better service delivery adding that the Service would continue to pursue reforms holistically.

“We are currently constructing our technology building, which after completion, will enable the Service have a data-sharing ecosystem where relevant agencies can actually data of citizens and migrants real time.” Babandede said.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Comptroller of Immigration in Akwa Ibom Command, Mr Livingstone Amadi, said that for 32 years the command operated inside federal secretariat, which was not too conducive for operations.
