#EndBadGovernance Organisers Plan ‘Fearless in October’ Protests

Following the nationwide #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests held from August 1 to 10, 2024, the organisers are gearing up for another round of demonstrations in October.

Damilare Adenola, the Director of Mobilisation for the Take It Back Movement, confirmed the upcoming protests, dubbed the “Fearless in October” protests, during an interview on Monday. He stated that the group’s demands would remain consistent, though additional issues might be addressed if the situation in the country deteriorates further.

“Our charter of demands stands the same. If anything, we might add more as the country’s situation worsens,” Adenola said.

The previous #EndBadGovernance protests saw youth across the nation, including in the Federal Capital Territory, take to the streets despite government attempts to dissuade them. Protesters submitted a list of demands to the government, which included the abolition of the Senate, making the House of Representatives a part-time job, raising the minimum wage to N250,000, reversing fuel prices and electricity tariffs to pre-January 2023 levels, and releasing and compensating all EndSARS and political detainees.

When asked if the protesters would adhere to state government court orders requiring demonstrations to be held at designated locations, Adenola firmly stated, “We won’t accept the compliance.”

In a related development, activist and Human Rights Lawyer Deji Adeyanju disclosed that efforts are underway to secure the release of those arrested during the previous protests.

“All efforts are being directed towards securing the release of those that have been arrested,” Adeyanju said during a phone call with our correspondent.
