NYSC: Oborevwori Urges Newly Sworn-In Corps Members in Delta on Unity, Commitment, and Hard Work for Development

By Anne Azuka

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has urged newly deployed Corps members to remain mindful of the prevailing realities in national life, emphasizing that the current situation in the country calls for unity, commitment, and hard work to drive development.

Rt. Hon. Oborevwori gave this advice during the Opening Ceremony and Swearing-In of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course for Corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha Local Government Area of the State.

The governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Bar. Trakiriowei ThankGod Harry, described the call to national service as one that demands sacrifice, dedication, perseverance, and humility.

According to the governor, the service year is heavily influenced by the foundation laid during the orientation exercise.

He, therefore, urged Corps members, as potential leaders, to be fully committed to the orientation programme to equip themselves for self-employment after their service year, aiming to become self-reliant rather than job seekers.

“You are today called upon to serve in an environment that may be entirely new to you. This is an orientation camp, which is regimented. I, therefore, enjoin you to be painstakingly diligent and humble in all that you are assigned to do.

“The knowledge you will acquire in this camp will be a catalyst for your purposeful future endeavors.

“Make this call a mark of honor and put in your utmost in all you do, devoting more time to self-evaluation and development.”

The governor, who formally declared the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Exercise open, advised Corps members to relate freely with each other and to share their academic expertise with their host communities.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Delta State, Mr. Alao Olusegun, disclosed that a total of one thousand five hundred and forty-six (1,546) prospective Corps members were duly registered by the close of the registration exercise at midnight on Thursday, August 29, 2024, and were sworn in as members of the National Youth Service Corps.

Alao encouraged Corps members to make the most of the orientation programme, noting that the orientation course stands out as one of the four cardinal programmes of the scheme.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his continued support of the scheme, while also appealing for the prompt fulfillment of the governor’s promise to provide a new 150KVA diesel generator and fencing to help safeguard the substantial government investments in the camp.
