Rodri: Ronaldo Lacks Natural Talent Compared to Messi

By Abigail Philip David

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has sparked controversy with his recent comments about Cristiano Ronaldo, claiming the Portuguese superstar lacks the innate talent possessed by Lionel Messi.

Speaking on Spanish TV program *El Hormiguero* on Wednesday, Rodri, who is recovering from knee surgery, weighed in on the long-standing debate over football’s greatest player. The Spaniard unequivocally declared Messi as the best, while offering a critical assessment of Ronaldo’s abilities.

“Lionel Messi is the greatest player of all time, without any doubt,” Rodri stated. “Cristiano has managed to match Messi without innate talent. But those of us who have played against them can see the difference.”

He elaborated on the challenges of facing both players, noting the unique threats they bring to the pitch.

“With Cristiano, we didn’t want him stepping into the box because he’s lethal there. But with Messi, the danger comes from everywhere on the pitch,” he explained.

Rodri’s remarks have ignited heated debates among fans and pundits, with many interpreting his comments as a dismissal of Ronaldo’s natural abilities.

### Reflects on Ballon d’Or Win
During the same interview, Rodri reflected on his recent Ballon d’Or victory, where he beat Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior to claim the prestigious award.

“There was a rumour three weeks before the gala that Vinícius was going to win, so I didn’t have high expectations,” he revealed. “But just before arriving in Paris, people started congratulating me. I didn’t even have a speech prepared, but my father insisted I write something just in case.”

Rodri’s remarks have not only reignited the Messi-Ronaldo debate but also provided a glimpse into his own rise to football’s elite ranks.
