Adeboye Dismisses Viral AI-Generated Image Depicting Him as an ‘Alhaji’

By Abigail Philip David

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has addressed a controversial AI-generated image circulating on social media. The image depicted him dressed in Islamic attire and standing in front of the Kaabah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, a sacred site for Muslims.

Speaking during the first Holy Ghost Night of the year on Saturday, January 4, Adeboye dismissed the image, which gained traction online in late December 2024. He acknowledged the image with a smile, saying, “I’m sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an alhaji.”

On Mockers and Predictions
Adeboye used the occasion to address those mocking him and predicted that many mockers would not survive the year, although he stressed that God does not take pleasure in the death of sinners.

He also made global prophecies, urging prayers for peace amid ongoing international conflicts to avert another world war. Adeboye further predicted an unprecedented earthquake in 2025 and reassured the congregation that despite current challenges, brighter days lie ahead.

Focus on Nigeria and Fasting Guidelines
The RCCG leader announced a 100-day fast, with the first 30 days dedicated to praying for Nigeria. He promised “violent prayers” to uproot obstacles hindering the nation’s progress.

Adeboye offered guidelines for participants, advising those over 70 to fast only partially:
– Ages 70–80: Break the fast by 3 p.m.
– Ages 80–90: Break the fast by noon.
– Ages 90 and above: Exempt from fasting.

He cautioned participants against engaging in frivolous activities during the fasting period, emphasizing that fasting without prayer is merely a “hunger strike.”

Prophesies for 2025
Adeboye declared that 2025 would be a year of breakthroughs, promotions, and long-awaited milestones, including weddings. He described the coming year as one with a “stronger wind” symbolizing progress and fulfillment of promises.

AI Image Controversy
The viral image first appeared on X (formerly Twitter) shared by user @Sarkideyforyou with the caption: “Pastor Adeboye may Allah guide you to the right path.” By December 22, 2024, the post had garnered over 3.8 million views, 1,500 reposts, 1,800 comments, and 4,000 likes.

Fact-checking platforms, including FactCheckHub, have since confirmed the image as AI-generated, dismissing any claims of authenticity.

Adeboye remains unshaken, using the incident to reiterate his commitment to God’s purpose and his congregation’s faith.
