Nigeria’s “Hike Economy” and Its Impact on Telecom Services

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Nigeria is grappling with an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, with price hikes now touching nearly every sector, including telecommunications. What started with increases in petrol, gas, transportation, interest rates, food, and power has now extended to telecom services.

This unyielding rise in prices has led many to call it the “Hike Economy.” The term reflects the growing frustration of millions of Nigerians as essential services become increasingly unaffordable.

The “Hike Economy” is not just an economic issue but a social one. It threatens the stability of a society striving for progress and development. As telecom services join the list of escalating costs, businesses and households alike feel the strain.

Addressing the impact of this trend requires urgent, innovative solutions. Without intervention, this crisis will continue to burden Nigerians, making it critical for policymakers to act swiftly to provide relief.
