Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Nigeria’s Security

By Abigail Philip David

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to national security, emphasizing that safeguarding Nigeria remains a top priority.

Speaking at the Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu—represented by Minister of Defence Muhammed Badaru—praised the military and security agencies for their relentless efforts in combating threats across the country.

“While I applaud the tremendous efforts of the Armed Forces, I also commend the various joint task forces and security agencies for their tenacity in bringing armed criminals to justice. Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring peace and stability within our nation,” he said.

The president assured the security forces of his continued support, pledging to provide the necessary resources for them to effectively discharge their duties.

He also emphasized the importance of synergy among all security agencies to address evolving threats, urging them to embrace innovative solutions, integrate emerging technologies, and enhance multi-agency cooperation to combat insecurity effectively.

Calls for Greater Investment in Defence

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmed Lawan, called for increased investment in Nigeria’s defence and intelligence sectors to address security challenges more efficiently. He also advocated for restructuring military procurement processes to align with the operational needs of security forces.

Nigeria’s Security and Foreign Policy

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, represented by Permanent Secretary Amb. Dunoma Ahmed, emphasized that peace and security remain key pillars of Nigeria’s foreign policy.

He stated that the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the military share a common goal of ensuring Nigeria remains a beacon of hope for Africa and the global community.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes seriously the crucial task of translating our government and people’s vision and aspirations into effective diplomatic action,” he added.

The conference underscored the government’s focus on strengthening national security, fostering collaboration among agencies, and leveraging technology to tackle security challenges.
