Sokoto State Trains Facilitators on Community Sensitization Against GBV, Harmful Social Norms

The Sokoto State Government has commenced a two-day training program for facilitators on community sensitization regarding social norms, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and referral modalities.

The training, organized by the AGILE Project, Sokoto State, was officially opened today on behalf of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmed Ladan Ala, by the Director of Administration, Abubakar Umar Salame.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Ladan Ala, represented by Salame, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to education under the leadership of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, FCNA. He highlighted key initiatives, including school renovations, timely payment of cash allocations to principals, and other reforms aimed at improving the education sector.

The Deputy Project Coordinator, Dr. Kabir Garba Gobir, delivered the welcome address, urging participants to actively engage in the training. He emphasized the importance of acquiring and disseminating knowledge on GBV and harmful social norms in their respective communities, as stated by Information Officer Ibrahim Iya.

Goodwill messages were delivered by notable dignitaries, including the **Sarkin Yakin Gagi**, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabbi; the Executive Secretary of the Teachers’ Service Board, Hajiya Aishatu Nasiru Zarummai; and the Director of Women’s Affairs at the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Hauwa Umar Jabo. They all underscored the significance of the initiative in addressing critical social issues.

The Sokoto State Government, through collaborative projects like AGILE, continues to demonstrate its commitment to tackling social issues through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
