AI Crucial for Advancing Health, Education, and Innovation – Bill Gates

Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has emphasized the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing major global challenges, especially in health, education, and agriculture.

Speaking during a meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday in Jakarta, Gates expressed optimism that AI-driven technologies will play a pivotal role in advancing public welfare.

“AI is going to help us discover new tools,” Gates said. “Even in the delivery of healthcare, education, and agricultural advice, we’ll be using AI.”

He also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, noting that after the global eradication of polio, the focus would shift to eliminating diseases like measles and malaria—efforts he believes will be accelerated through innovation and AI.

President Prabowo, in his remarks, acknowledged Gates’ philanthropic impact in Indonesia, stating that over $159 million in donations have been made since 2009, primarily supporting the health sector and vaccine initiatives.

As part of his visit, Gates accompanied President Prabowo to an elementary school in Jakarta to observe a free school meal program initiated by the Indonesian government.

The visit underscored their shared commitment to health and education, with AI positioned as a tool to enhance both sectors. The meeting also came as global efforts to eradicate polio—spread through unsafe water and poor sanitation—continue under the guidance of UN agencies.
