MTN Nigeria Pledges N3 Billion to Support FG’s 3MTT Digital Skills Program

MTN Nigeria has committed N3 billion to the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, a flagship program under the Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at developing Nigeria’s digital workforce.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who praised MTN’s role in supporting the government’s digital transformation goals.

“I acknowledge MTN Nigeria’s long-term support for the 3MTT Nigeria program, with a cumulative investment of N3 billion since inception,” the Minister said, highlighting the telco’s consistent involvement in the initiative.

Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration

Dr. Tijani emphasized that public-private partnerships are crucial to Nigeria’s digital progress and workforce readiness.

He noted that MTN, as an early partner, has played a key role in expanding access to digital skills training, especially for young Nigerians nationwide.

“This kind of sustained collaboration is what drives our vision of building a future-ready workforce and positioning Nigeria as a net-exporter of technical talent,” he added.

Ongoing Industry Support

MTN’s pledge follows a N1 billion grant from Airtel Africa Foundation in March and a separate N1 billion partnership with IHS Towers, aimed at building learning communities across Nigeria.

As part of its contribution, IHS Towers also committed to funding the salaries of 37 learning community managers—one for each state—for a period of three years.

About the 3MTT Initiative

The 3MTT initiative is a cornerstone of the federal government’s digital agenda. It seeks to train 3 million Nigerians in essential and emerging digital skills to boost local innovation and position the country as a global talent hub.

The program began with an initial cohort of 30,000 participants, representing 1% of the total target. An additional 270,000 individuals were selected for the second phase, bringing the initiative to 10% of its overall goal.

Training covers both tech and tech-enabled roles, including:

  • Digital Marketing
  • Project Management Software
  • Cloud Platforms Navigation
  • Data Analysis & Visualization
  • CRM Management
  • Graphics & UX/UI Design
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Accounting Software, and more.

According to Tijani, the program is being implemented in phases based on a collaborative framework involving government agencies, private companies, training providers, educational institutions, and development partners.

“As we scale the 3MTT Program, we look forward to deepening our partnerships with the private sector to unlock more opportunities for our people and our economy,” the Minister concluded.
